For most main applicants. Confirm your own calculation before submitting through ImmiAccount.
What can change the amount?
Your lodgement date, selected pathway, whether you hold or previously held particular visas, and any additional applicants can affect the result shown by the official estimator.
The Department’s Visa Pricing Estimator provides a basic estimate using your answers. It is the appropriate final check for the cost of Partner Visa Australia, rather than a static third-party table.
Partner Visa Government Fee
The base fee can look similar across the main relationship pathways. The right pathway is still determined by your relationship and lodgement circumstances, not by the price alone.

What the page should clarify
Partner 820/801
From AUD 11,710 for most main applicants.
For eligible applicants in Australia at lodgement. The temporary 820 and permanent 801 applications are linked stages. Read 820/801 guidance.
Partner 309/100
From AUD 11,710 for most main applicants.
For eligible applicants outside Australia at lodgement. The temporary 309 and permanent 100 applications are linked stages. Read 309/100 guidance.
Prospective Marriage 300
From AUD 11,710 for most main applicants.
A separate route for eligible engaged couples. Home Affairs currently shows a reduced 820 charge from AUD 1,560 for eligible 300 holders. Read visa 300 guidance.
For the standard 820/801 and 309/100 routes, the permanent stage is connected to the initial Partner visa application. Home Affairs states that the permanent 100 visa is paid for when the temporary and permanent applications are made together. Do not treat the initial price as a separate “temporary only” fee without checking the current official page.
The visa application charge is the largest single item for many couples. It is not necessarily the full cost of preparing and lodging an application.
Health examinations
The cost depends on where you complete the examination and what checks are requested. Budget separately for each person who must meet the health requirement.
Police certificates and biometrics
Fees depend on the countries involved and whether biometrics are requested. These costs are generally paid to the relevant provider or authority.
Translations and certification
Documents not accepted in English may need translation. Costs vary with document length, language, certification needs and provider.
Optional professional assistance
A migration agent’s fee is separate from government charges. It should be explained in a written service agreement, with scope and exclusions made clear.
Home Affairs lists health requirements, police records and biometrics among possible related costs. Your situation determines which items apply. [Official related-cost guidance]
Payment surcharge: Home Affairs says a surcharge may apply when paying by credit card or PayPal. Its published rates currently show Visa and MasterCard at 1.40%, PayPal at 1.01% and UnionPay at 1.90%. Check the official payment page at the point of payment, as methods and rates can change.
When do you pay the Partner Visa Australia fee?
For online applications, payment is the final step in lodging through ImmiAccount. The Department says a visa application cannot be processed if the correct visa application charge is not paid.
The full amount you need to pay depends on the application calculation. Do not assume the base charge alone is enough when you include a child, hold a particular prior visa or have a different payment method.
1. Confirm the correct visa pathway
Check whether the facts point to 820/801, 309/100 or 300. A lower or familiar fee does not make a pathway suitable.
2. Use the official estimator close to lodgement
Enter the current details accurately. The official estimator asks about applicant location, visa history and additional applicants.
3. Check payment limits and surcharges
Ensure that the payment method, daily card limit and available funds cover the calculated amount plus any applicable surcharge.
4. Keep the transaction record
Save the lodgement confirmation and transaction details with the rest of the application records.
Home Affairs also states that fees are paid for assessment and validation. A refusal or change of mind does not, by itself, create a right to a refund. Read the Department’s refund guidance before assuming a charge is recoverable.
A practical budget plan for your Partner visa application
Instead of relying on one broad “all-in” estimate, organise costs into clear groups. This makes it easier to see what is fixed, what depends on your circumstances and what needs a current quote.

Plan your Partner visa costs before lodgement
Bring your proposed pathway, location at lodgement, applicants, visa history and available evidence to a pre-lodgement discussion. This helps identify the questions that affect both the application plan and the cost plan.
How much is a Partner Visa Australia for the main applicant?
As of 1 July 2026, Home Affairs lists the cost from AUD 11,710 for most main applicants under the common Partner and Prospective Marriage pathways. Confirm the amount again before lodging.
Is the 820/801 Partner visa cheaper than the 309/100 visa?
The current listed starting charge is the same for most main applicants. The appropriate route depends on where you are when you apply and your circumstances, not on which starting price looks lower.
Does the Partner Visa Australia fee include health checks and police certificates?
No. Those are possible related costs and may be paid to the relevant medical provider, police authority, biometrics provider or translator.
When do I pay the Partner Visa Australia fee?
For an online application, payment is made in ImmiAccount as part of the final lodgement process. Make sure the calculated amount and any payment surcharge can be covered.
Can I get the visa application charge back if the visa is refused?
Usually not simply because the visa is refused or you change your mind. The Department has specific legal and administrative grounds for refunds, so check the current official guidance for exceptions.
