The 2024-25 Tasmania Skilled Migration State Nomination Program
The Tasmania Skilled Migration Program provides skilled workers with the chance to live and work in Tasmania, a state that offers a high quality of life, affordable living, and ample job prospects.
There have been updates to the Tasmania Skilled Migration Nomination Program for 2024-25, including:
- An updated critical roles list,
- An increased service fee to apply for nomination,
- Changes to priority attributes added Orange-plus level,
- Changes to income thresholds in minimum eligibility requirement and priority attributes,
- Candidates with a skills assessment and directly related employment qualify for permanent skilled visa nomination after six months of work,
- Adds more detailed policy guidance in the Additional Information, Exclusions, and Definitions section of the Migration Tasmania website,
- New occupation groups have been added to the Tasmanian Onshore Skilled Occupation List for the subclass 190 Tasmania Skilled Employment pathway.
2024-25 Tasmania State Nomination Program Allocations
Tasmania has been allocated 2,860 State Nomination places for the 2024-2025 program year, comprising 2,100 places for the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) and 760 places for the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491).
The Tasmania Skilled Migration Nomination will open for Registrations of Interest from 12 pm (AEST) on 1 August 2024. Updated eligibility criteria, policy guidance, and service fees will apply to applicants this year.
Tasmania State Nomination Process 2024-25
The 2024-25 Tasmanian State Nomination Process applies a new Registration of Interest (ROI) system on Gateway, introducing a new pass level, Orange-Plus.
Therefore, ROIs will be assessed against a set of priority factors and allocated a pass level:
- Gold: being invited to apply immediately
- Green: fast-tracked within 1-2 months.
- Orange-plus: prioritized after Gold and Green passes.
- Orange: placed on a waitlist
- Red: ineligible.
ROIs are valid for 6 months and can be updated if circumstances change. Multiple ROIs can be submitted for different pathways.
The nomination process will be rolled out in stages. Initially, Migration Tasmania will continue to process applications from the 2023-24 program and invite applicants from the Overseas Skilled Occupation Profiles pathway.
Subsequently, applicants with Gold and Green passes in this year’s 2024-25 program will be prioritized, followed by a general opening to all eligible applicants.
Tasmania Onshore Skilled Occupation List (TOSOL) 2024
The Tasmanian Onshore Skilled Occupation List (TOSOL) for the subclass 190 Tasmania Skilled Employment pathway has been expanded. A total of 19 new occupation groups, covering 78 individual occupations, have been added. This provides more opportunities for skilled workers to secure permanent residency in Tasmania.

In addition, employment in the hospitality sector has been expanded to include roles such as Chef, Cook, or Café or Restaurant manager in a fast-casual restaurant or café business. This provides additional pathways for skilled workers in the food industry to qualify for the program.

The 2024 update to the Critical Roles List includes the addition of 37 new occupations and the removal of 30 existing ones.

The updated Critical Roles List applies to the Tasmania Skilled Employment, Skilled Graduate, and Established Resident pathways. Candidates employed in one of the listed occupations will have more potential to get the Gold priority.
Tasmania State Nomination Requirements
Tasmania currently offers a variety of nomination pathways for applicants with diverse needs and circumstances. Applicants need to meet certain minimum eligibility requirements for their respective pathways.
Tasmanian Skilled Employment Pathway
For the Skilled Employment Pathway in Tasmania, the minimum eligibility requirements are different between visa types (subclass 190 or subclass 491 visa) that applicants need. The general requirements for employment and conditions are summarized in the following table:

Tasmanian Established Resident Pathway
The Tasmanian Established Resident Pathway offers a pathway to permanent residency for those who meet the eligibility requirements below:

Tasmanian Business Operator Pathway
Only applicants under Subclass 491 who meet the following criteria are eligible for the Tasmanian Business Operator Pathway:
- Business Ownership and Operation: Applicants have to establish and operate a business in Tasmania for at least 12 months.
- Income Generation: Your business must have generated a personal taxable income of at least 85% of the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (currently $62,178).
- Fair Employment Practices: Applicants must demonstrate an understanding of fair employment practices by completing relevant units on the Fair Work Ombudsman’s online learning center.
- Industry-Specific Requirements: For massage therapy businesses, owners must have a related skills assessment and a verifiable health fund provider number.
Overseas Applicant (Job Offer) Pathway
For Overseas Applicants under the Job Offer Pathway, Tasmania not only enforces the minimum eligibility requirements but also the Gold priority attribute requirement:

Overseas Applicant (OSOP) – Invitation Only Pathway
The Tasmanian Government is currently not accepting Registrations of Interest for this specific pathway. If you’re outside Australia and seeking a Tasmanian nomination, you’ll need a job offer from a Tasmanian employer and use the Overseas Job Offer pathway, especially for health or allied health positions.
To be considered, applicants need to meet these criteria:

Application Process and Timeline
Tasmania’s State Nomination program offers a pathway to permanent residency in Australia for skilled migrants. To ensure your application is successful, it’s crucial to understand the key updates and requirements for the 2024-2025 program year.
Tasmania State Nomination Fees 2024-2025
The application fee for this year’s nomination program is $360, inclusive of a $36 Goods and Services Tax (GST). There is no fee to submit a Registration of Interest (ROI).
Applications submitted/ invited before 12:00 pm
Applications submitted before August 1, 2024, and still pending will be assessed based on the requirements in place at the time an invitation is issued.
Registrations of Interest submitted in the 2023-24 program year
ROIs submitted before July 1, 2024, will remain valid for the 2024-2025 program year until they expire (six months from the submission date) or until you receive an invitation to apply.
If you submitted an ROI before this date, the requirements and criteria that applied at that time will continue to apply to your application. However, if you submit a new ROI from August 1, 2024, the latest priority attributes will be applied.
You may choose to withdraw your existing ROI and submit a new one if the updated criteria are more advantageous to you.
Nomination for Visas
Applicants who have submitted an Expression of Interest (EOI) for a Subclass 491 visa and are awaiting an outcome will not be considered for a Subclass 190 visa.
To be eligible for a Subclass 190 visa, applicants must withdraw their existing EOI and submit a new one when the nomination program reopens for the 2024-2025 financial year.
